About the Artist

Joy Brinkley-Hill is a North Carolina native. Joy relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she is a Master Painter Signature Member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, and Signature Member of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies and the Watercolor Society of North Carolina. She developed her own personal style while studying with nationally known watercolor artists. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Studio. In August 2019, Joy was honored as an Albuquerque Local Treasure for excellence in the arts and her artistic discipline and also for giving back to the community.

Her works have been exhibited in juried exhibitions throughout the country. Many of her works hang in various corporate businesses.

"My watercolors visually depict the theme of nostalgia, while focusing on abstract light patterns. In my current series, the hard, cold surfaces of crystal and glass family heirlooms are juxtaposed with the vibrancy, warmth, and sensuousness of various fruits, flowers and fabrics."

"While painting each still life, all of my senses become engaged—sight, smell, taste, and touch. This experience translates into the process of the painting. I not only express how the glass reflects the colors of surrounding objects, but also show the transparency and how sunlight refracts into its spectrum of colors as it passes through the glass."

“I have currently embarked upon a series of landscapes which include New Mexico’s well-known balloons and migratory birds.”
